Studio City
True to its name, Studio City is a place that encapsulates the glitz and glamor of California living. Located on the scenic foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, this neighborhood is home to many film and TV studios, including CBS Studio Center. Unsurprisingly, many A-listers call Studio City home, such as George Clooney, Eddie Van Halen, Bruno Mars, William Shatner, and Miley Cyrus.
The heart of this community is Ventura Boulevard, with its eclectic collection of boutique stores, renowned restaurants, and art galleries. It also hosts the Studio City Farmers Market, where you can buy farm-fresh produce and artisanal goods.
Despite its ritzy atmosphere and well-heeled residents, the neighborhood has a distinctly family-friendly atmosphere, boasting tree-lined streets and excellent schools. Is it any wonder why Studio City is often dubbed as the “Jewel of the Valley”?
History of Studio City
Studio City was once part of Rancho Ex-Mission San Fernando, a Mexican land grant given in 1846. After Mexico’s defeat to America during the war, the territory would officially become part of the United States.
With the construction of the Los Angeles Aqueduct in 1908, the area would soon transform from a ranchland into one of Los Angeles’ most prestigious neighborhoods. Residential development was kickstarted by Central Motion Picture District Incorporated, a business syndicate that included Mack Sennett, one of the silent screen’s leading talents.
In 1927, Sennett built a new studio on a 20-acre lot in the area which would eventually become CBS Studio Center. Other major outfits would follow suit, making Studio City the beating heart of Hollywood’s film-making industry. This naturally piqued the interest of stars and other wealthy buyers who were soon house-hunting in the neighborhood. Before long, the community would become the first master-planned megadevelopment in Los Angeles.
Real Estate in Studio City
As one of the most coveted addresses in Los Angeles, Studio City commands top-dollar prices for its homes. Indeed, data from Realtor.com shows that the average list price in the area is an impressive $1.5 million. That said, homes here offer excellent views, expansive floor spaces, and top-of-the-line amenities that make them well worth the investment.
Buyers can choose from different property types depending on their budget, lifestyle, and life stage. These range from cozy condos, to spacious single-family homes, to opulent luxury properties. The typical Studio City home features four bedrooms and three bathrooms, with a floor space of around 1,500 square feet.

If you’re a connoisseur of gourmet food, highly rated restaurants like Asanebo, Laurel Tavern, and The Front Yard are sure to satisfy your cravings. For some retail therapy, Ventura Boulevard offers more than its fair share of shops and stores. The neighborhood is also close to beloved attractions such as Universal Studios, Coldwater Canyon Park, and North Valleyheart Riverwalk.
