Studio City
True to its name, Studio City is a place that encapsulates the glitz and glamor of California living. Located on the scenic foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, this neighborhood is home to many film and TV studios, including CBS Studio Center. Unsurprisingly, many A-listers call Studio City home, such as George Clooney, Eddie Van Halen, Bruno Mars, William Shatner, and Miley Cyrus.
The heart of this community is Ventura Boulevard, with its eclectic collection of boutique stores, renowned restaurants, and art galleries. It also hosts the Studio City Farmers Market, where you can buy farm-fresh produce and artisanal goods.
Despite its ritzy atmosphere and well-heeled residents, the neighborhood has a distinctly family-friendly atmosphere, boasting tree-lined streets and excellent schools. Is it any wonder why Studio City is often dubbed as the “Jewel of the Valley”?
History of Studio City
Studio City was once part of Rancho Ex-Mission San Fernando, a Mexican land grant given in 1846. After Mexico’s defeat to America during the war, the territory would officially become part of the United States.
With the construction of the Los Angeles Aqueduct in 1908, the area would soon transform from a ranchland into one of Los Angeles’ most prestigious neighborhoods. Residential development was kickstarted by Central Motion Picture District Incorporated, a business syndicate that included Mack Sennett, one of the silent screen’s leading talents.
In 1927, Sennett built a new studio on a 20-acre lot in the area which would eventually become CBS Studio Center. Other major outfits would follow suit, making Studio City the beating heart of Hollywood’s film-making industry. This naturally piqued the interest of stars and other wealthy buyers who were soon house-hunting in the neighborhood. Before long, the community would become the first master-planned megadevelopment in Los Angeles.
